The Queen Mum turns 13 On February 22nd, 2003, we had Morgan's 13th birthday party at the Poway Dog Park (she turns 13 on the 28th). We didn't get a complete count, but about 25 of her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids were on hand to have a good time and pay homage to the reason they all came into being. Our faithful photographer, Dale, arrived to take over 116 shots with his new Nikon D100 digital SLR camera, and I spent all day on Sunday editing and resizing them to publish them for everyone to enjoy. And Kris and Katie, both suffering from the stomach flu, put that aside to bring Her Majesty her birthday cake from Molly's Gourmutt Bakery in Poway, along with grandkids Catera and Merlin. A good time and cake was enjoyed by all, including Tim with Luke (great-grandson), Gracie (daughter) and Jake (great-grandson), who all drove in from Las Vegas for the party. Herm and Linda, Morgan's breeder, drove up from Campo as well to help their shining daughter celebrate this milestone. Now of course, we are thinking that in two years she'll be able to get her learner's permit, then a year later her driver's license; next she'll be wanting her own truck (a Ford, of course), gas money and next thing you know, she'll be going everywhere, not telling us what she's doing, and hanging out with "that crowd". Well, guess we'll just have to leap those hurdles when we get there! It sure was good to be holding a birthday party instead of a memorial, as we thought we might be doing last month! Her last tumour has nearly completely disappeared, she's eating like her old self and still reminds every dog in the pack that SHE is the boss, and they better not ever forget it! At the Queen Creek ranch dog trials the week prior, she amused everyone watching with her actions regarding the sheep. The sheep that had just finished their runs were being exhausted into a round pen near where we were all sitting on the hay bales watching the last dogs run. Morgan was lying there watching the sheep in the round pen. And every time those sheep moved, she got up, eyeing them back to where they were. They would go back, and she would lie down again, until they moved, then she was back up, eyeing them back into position. We all got such a kick out of watching her that we ended up missing some of the dog's runs! I think she didn't really know there was a fence (it was pretty light fencing) there and the sheep really weren't going anywhere. But it made her feel good to be doing something, something she lives for (next to eating). You gotta admire her spirit! Enjoy the pictures! They are quite large, and I put 6 per page; there are a lot of them as well. If you do not have DSL/cable, it will take a long time to load, and I apologize, but I wanted to make sure that the picture quality wasn't compromised by making them much smaller.
