| Our gangly Miss Jarrah got her AKC HIC (Herding Instinct
Certificate) at the tender age of 7 months, her first time on stock
(sheep). She showed great eye, power and biddability, not tentative
at all, and smartly smacked a couple of heads that challenged her as
well as hitting heels as needed to get things moving right along.
At 16 months of age, we took her to cattle for the first time, and after
a bit of a tentative start, she was right in there, turning cows and
taking the occasional hit when needed. A bit handler focused at
the moment, but enough of the good stuff is in there (plus a lot of nice
heart) that she has the makings of a good working dog. I'm quite pleased with her promise, and also pleased with the type of
stockdogs her mother Jazzee is producing. We will be repeating the
cross that produced Jarrah and Shae in late
2001. That will be Jazzee's final litter. |
